Has it ever crossed your mind that being at the mercy of others is not a cool position to occupy? I bet you never thought of it.
The truth is that being your own boss is more than a slogan; it is the way things should be if you ever want to have control of your life. Now, I am not suggesting that having some form of control over you is out of place. If this were so, would we be good children or liveable spouses? However, when you are enslaved and you don’t even know it, a disaster is in the making.
My grouse is with Facebook. Till now, I do not understand why they took down my business page called the Longrich High Flyers where I promote my Longrich business. They accused me of fraud and deception. And I am like, what! If anything I have ever been, everyone know me for my fixation on honesty and integrity.
Nevertheless, the point I have to make is that it makes a lot of sense to have some control over your content. My website will be my new office where I reach out to the world. The truth is that when I had such an experience with Google last year about some of my videos, I thought it was odd. However, I guess I am learning some new things with these experiences. Where YouTube is more considerate is that you will at least have the particular video taken down and your attention will be called to the particular issue. You may agree with or disagree with them on the matter. It eventually gets resolved. But #Facebook banning a whole page without previous warning for me smacks of high handedness. It exposes to me our vulnerability on these social media platforms.
Trump did all sort of nonsense on Facebook for a long time without being called out for it. However, advertising an opportunity and products that are genuine and true is being called some strange names like deception and fraud? #Facebook needs to rethink its stand and unfreeze my page. It took me two years of consistent posting to grow the following I have on that page!
Anyway, I was almost thinking of shutting out these platforms. Nevertheless, I have also decided to use them, with me in control.
So, if you put all your eggs on Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp – they all belong to Mark Zuckerberg – think again. The day they wake up and say you have violated their rules, your contents are gone. But with your website, you still have control of your content!
A word is enough for the wise.
